Day 1: Edinburgh to Loch Ness

We depart from Castle Rock Hostel in Edinburgh in the morning, leaving the city behind as we cross the iconic Forth Bridges and begin our journey into the Scottish Highlands. Our first stop takes us into the peaceful Perthshire countryside for a magical woodland walk at The Hermitage near Dunkeld. Here towering Douglas fir trees surround a dramatic waterfall — a perfect introduction to Scotland’s wild landscapes. Continuing north into the Highlands, we pass through historic Killiecrankie and the rugged scenery that once echoed with tales of Jacobite rebellion and clan warfare. By afternoon we arrive near Inverness to explore two of Scotland’s most atmospheric historic sites. At Culloden Battlefield you’ll walk the haunting grounds where the Jacobite uprising came to its tragic end in 1746. Nearby, the ancient standing stones and burial cairns of Clava Cairns offer a mysterious glimpse into Scotland’s Bronze Age past. Our day finishes on the legendary shores of Loch Ness, where we spend the night beside Scotland’s most famous loch. Relax in the hostel, join the evening’s social activities, or take a brave dip in the icy waters while keeping watch for the elusive Nessie. - Forth Bridges - Dunkeld - The Hermitage Walk - Killiecrankie - Culloden Battlefield - Clava Cairns - Loch Ness (overnight)

Day 2: Loch Ness to Skye

Today we journey west through some of the most remote and beautiful landscapes in the Highlands. Our first stop is Rogie Falls, where a short woodland walk leads to a dramatic waterfall tumbling through a narrow gorge. From here we continue north to the spectacular Corrieshalloch Gorge, a deep canyon carved by glacial meltwater. Crossing the Victorian suspension bridge gives breathtaking views down to the Falls of Measach far below. Travelling through the ancient mountains of Wester Ross, we pass through the wild scenery of Kinlochewe and Torridon — a landscape shaped by some of the oldest rocks in Europe. Turning south toward the coast, we stop at one of Scotland’s most iconic castles. Eilean Donan Castle stands proudly where three sea lochs meet and is one of the most photographed castles in the country. Finally we cross the Skye Bridge and arrive on the Isle of Skye, where we’ll spend the night in the colourful harbour village of Kyleakin. - Rogie Falls - Corrieshalloch Gorge - Kinlochewe - Torridon Mountains - Eilean Donan Castle - Kyleakin (overnight on Skye)

Day 3: Explore Isle of Skye

Day 3 is dedicated to exploring the dramatic landscapes of the Isle of Skye — an island famous for its rugged mountains, ancient legends and unforgettable scenery. We begin our adventure at Sligachan, where sweeping views of the Black Cuillin mountains create one of the island’s most iconic landscapes. Continuing north, we visit the colourful harbour town of Portree before heading out to explore some of Skye’s most spectacular natural landmarks. At the Old Man of Storr, a towering rock pinnacle rises dramatically above the surrounding cliffs and sea. Nearby, Kilt Rock reveals sheer basalt cliffs and a waterfall plunging straight into the ocean below. We then travel through the incredible landslip landscape of the Quiraing on the Trotternish Peninsula — a surreal landscape of cliffs, pinnacles and hidden plateaus that feels almost otherworldly. Throughout the day there are plenty of opportunities to step off the bus, take short walks, and truly experience the wild beauty that makes Skye so special. - Sligachan - The Cuillin Mountains - Portree - Old Man of Storr - Kilt Rock - The Quiraing - Kyleakin (overnight on Skye)

Day 4: Skye to Oban

After breakfast we leave Skye behind, travelling by ferry from Armadale back to the mainland. Landing at Mallaig, we follow the stunning Road to the Isles, passing the silver sands of Morar — often considered some of the most beautiful beaches in Scotland. Soon we reach the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct overlooking Loch Shiel. This sweeping railway bridge is known around the world as the route of the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films. Continuing east, we pass through Fort William beneath the shadow of Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain. Our journey then leads us into the dramatic valley of Glen Coe — one of Scotland’s most iconic and haunting landscapes. Towering mountains surround this glen, which is also the site of the infamous 1692 massacre of the MacDonald clan. From here we continue south through the Highlands to the lively coastal town of Oban, where we spend the night by the sea. - Armadale - Mallaig - Sands of Morar - Glenfinnan Viaduct - Fort William - Glen Coe - Oban (overnight)

Day 5: Oban to Edinburgh

On our final day we travel through the scenic landscapes of Argyll and the beautiful Trossachs National Park. We stop to visit the unique St Conan’s Kirk, one of Scotland’s most unusual churches, filled with fascinating architectural details and stories. Nearby we also visit the ruins of Kilchurn Castle (summer months only), dramatically situated on the shores of Loch Awe and surrounded by mountain scenery. Continuing east through the Trossachs, we pass through the town of Callander — a gateway to the Highlands where you may even spot one of Scotland’s famous hairy Highland cows. As we travel south you’ll hear stories of Scotland’s struggle for independence, including the legendary tales of William Wallace. Finally we return to Edinburgh in the early evening, where your Highland adventure comes to an end — though the memories will last a lifetime. Why not spend the night at Castle Rock Hostel and explore the city with your newfound best friends? - St Conan’s Kirk - Kilchurn Castle (summer months only) - Loch Awe - Callander - Wallace Monument - Return to Edinburgh
